Community Consultation on the Future of the Woodhouse Eaves Windmill
Broombriggs Farm and Windmill Hill are owned and managed by Leicestershire Country Parks Service. The park is a well-used space by visitors and locals alike with great walks and views of the countryside. The foundation of the windmill is all that now remains of the mill which burnt down in 1945. It was restored into a viewing area by Leicestershire County Council in the 2000s and was restored again in 2019. Sadly, the viewing area is now closed due to the poor condition of the platform and internal structure, which is open to the elements.
A decision was taken by the parks service not to pursue restoring the viewing platform again without the addition of a roof structure – without this, any restoration would be short-lived and not offer value for money for the authority.
However, given the long history of the park and how iconic the windmill is, we are looking at working with partners to fund a more thorough and sustainable restoration of the windmill.
We need your views as a local resident to help better understand what, how and who might be involved in any potential restoration. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this consultation.
Please note closing date for submissions is 31st July 2024.
Many thanks
